The latest Summit Anchor Company project shows just how far it’ll go for business: over 5,000 miles away to Athens, Greece. Summit Anchor completed inspection of the fall protection equipment and gantry system it designed and supplied for a major renovation project for the U.S. Embassy in Athens.
“We really live up to our mantra, ‘from Anchorage, Alaska to Athens, Greece call us for your next project’,” said Summi Anchor owner Gus Strats, who also held fall protection safety demonstrations for staff while there at the embassy.

The Frederick, Maryland-based company worked with Caddell Construction, the company tasked to renovate the historic U.S. Embassy in Athens. The U.S. Embassy’s Athens Chancery, designed by Walter Gropius in 1961, is a modern architectural standout and significant landmark.
According to Caddell’s website, upgrades include renovation and rehabilitation of the office building chancery; renovation and a major new addition to the office annex; a new entrance pavilion and connector between the chancery’s north and south wings; a new main compound access control facility; and security upgrades for the Marine Security Guard Quarters and three existing compound access control facilities. Caddell is based in Montgomery, Alabama.
The fall safety demonstrations were helpful for the staff. Since the project’s construction workers come from different countries and speak at least four languages (English, Greek, Turkish and Hindi), providing effective safety guidance is a challenge.

Strats gave safety suggestions, such as how to brace the beams so that the anchors would pass the 2,500 lbs load test that he performed. He also gave guidance regarding switching workers from hardhats to helmets with a chinstrap.
“I’m always eager to share the best fall safety protection measures,” Strats said. “I enjoyed working with such a diverse group on this project site.”
