Earn AIA Continuing Education Credits with New Summit Anchor Class

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has approved continuing education credit for a course taught by Summit Anchor president Gus Strats.
The class, entitled Anchor Layout for Rope Descent Systems, is a free hour-long course that provides an in-depth understanding of how to layout anchorages for rope descent systems. The course will also touch on anchorages for fall protection systems for workers on roofs and swing stage operations for workers accessing the building facade.
“Correctly installing rooftop anchors the first time is a no-brainer: It saves time, money, occupant disruption, and significantly reduces the building owner’s risk,” said Brad Cleveland, a Washington, D.C. engineer who has worked with Summit Anchor.
Strats, founder of Summit Anchor, has 25 years of experience working at height and designing his own anchor layouts for tall buildings.
“What I learned from using the anchor layouts I designed — as well as anchor layouts that were poorly designed by others — helped me understand how to design effective and efficient anchor layouts that make it easy for suspended workers to comply with OSHA regulations,” he said.
The first class is scheduled for January 27. Firms in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia metropolitan area also can arrange classes that have a minimum of four attendees. There are plans to post a pre-recorded class on demand at Summit Anchor’s website.
